Being in a Toronto hotel room for ten days, I started taking pictures from my balcony and having fun with them in Final Cut Express. I ended up editing the images to the first track more or less finished track of the album (it’s not the final mix and it’s shortened for the purpose of the film).
So here’s a preview to show that I’m actually doing something here!
P.S.: No, it’s NOT the track on which Mr. Tony Levin played! This one’s not done yet...

Week #2

Ups and downs this week.
I like my setup more and more and I’m getting used to compose here but I have to deal with outside projects and I went thru a BAD update of my TC Electronic plug-ins... more than 48hrs of fuc.. around to find the culprit. I hope my system is gonna stay solid for the next days.
The result is that I’m not where I wanted to, schedule-wise, but I’m not very surprised.

Having said that, things ARE going forward and I started putting some real (KIND OF real) drums on a song that is far from being done. My drumming skills aren’t what they used to be, but I still have a lot of fun banging away...

After MANY trips with gear loaded up to the ceiling of the car, Frank and I are finally ready to work. He took control of the first floor, aka « Guitarorama » , and I got the second floor, aka «electroland ».
It took quite a bit of time to bring our stuff in and make sure we didn’t scratch the floor or put dents in the walls, but we did...
The house is now a ‘round-the-clock production facility. Hopefully, we’ll « produce » something interesting! More to come...

That’s it, the ball’s rolling FOR REAL, now. François and I rented a house for a few months to be able to set up our gear properly and have a good environment for musical creation. In other words, no Internet or TV! We’ll start setting things up in January and we’ll post pictures here.

Just to start things off smoothly, the first session for the record was conducted in August with François Thériault, somewhere in suburbia. The tracks are probably not final but will serve as a basis for one of the tracks.

I’m back from holidays, the head full of ideas and the need to get things done!
I reinstalled everything, bought an A/C (those damn electronic units generate heat... a LOT!) and changed computers. No excuse for not producing good things.

I’d REALLY like to get ahold of my musical partners to get things done quickly and be able to mix the results in October. We’ll see if I make it...

That’s it, my “residence” on the south shore is done!
I haven’t done as much as I wanted (what’s new?), but I DID finish a few songs and set the wheels in motion for a few others.

I’ll spend my time on many projects in the next months, but I’m already looking forward to returning to THIS ONE...

Unbelievable...
One of the tracks I’ve been working on for a while proved to be a bit problematic; A discussion with François brought us to the conclusion that it needed a good bass line, played by a human being... not the simple thing I had played on a synth. Something that would take some space... but not overwhelming.
« A bit like what Tony Levin jwould play » was our conclusion.

After laughing at the thought, I remembered that he’s a busy session player and I could try and ask him; the worst that could happen would be a nice « Thanks, but no thanks! »

To make a long story short, he was gracious enough to say yes (AAAAAHHHHHH!) and I received the tracks from Mr. Bass himself yesterday... WOW!
Let’s just say it’s VERY strange to hear « that sound » on one of my tracks!!!!! I’m anxious to go home (I’m currently in Toronto) to work on the track properly!
